Abstract

We propose a new method that can more effectively suppress the undesirable end effect unavoidable in using EMD. The EMD method and new symmetrical extrema extension method for eliminating end effect in using EMD are introduced. This new method consists of essentially two steps; the first step is the addition of extrema points that are symmetrical with respect to the end point of the original signal; the second step is the correct insertion of the end point into the extended extrema series. Finally we give numerical results for some real signals. The results of our new method with other method are presented. These results show preliminarily that our new method can suppress the end effect in using EMD much better. Besides the algorithm of the method is easy to implement and the character of original signal is maintained when restructured.
