Abstract

The concept of linear difference beamforming can be applied to the general filtering technique for speech enhancement. This is the purpose of this chapter. First, we explain the signal model and show how linear difference filtering works in noise reduction. Second, we derive the most important performance measures. Finally, we develop some examples of optimal speech enhancement filters. We only discuss the case with first-order linear difference equations; generalization to higher orders is straightforward.
