Abstract
The requirement of plastic forming process of spline shaft in automobile industry is discussed and the principle of axial in-feed incremental rolling process of spline shaft is introduced. The experimental study is carried out at a servo drive axial in-feed incremental rolling equipment. A series of experiments with different blank diameters and die speeds are conducted. The results show that: the height of addendum circle decreases with the blank diameter increasing; the increase of die speed could eliminate the defect of tooth tip. In addition, the fibrous tissue with high grain density and elongated continuous streamline is obtained in the microstructure of formed spline shaft. The hardness measurement shows that the hardness of the spline shaft would be enhanced significantly by the axial in-feed incremental rolling process. The work shows that the axial in-feed incremental rolling process can realize the integration of forming and performance improving of spline shaft.
