Abstract

Single propeller, ducted propeller and pump jet propulsor are commonly used in underwater vehicles. In this paper, two models are established for a propulsor containing the rotor blades and a ducted propeller containing rotor and duct respectively. Based on the improved delayed detached eddy simulation method, the hydrodynamic performance and flow field of these two models together with the original pumpjet model are compared between each other. The results show that the hydrodynamic performance of the pumpjet propulsor is significantly improved compared with the single propeller and ducted propeller. In addition, the pre-swirl stator has great influence on the unsteady load on the rotor blade, while the duct only has little influence on it. The characteristic frequency of the exciting force on the single rotor blade of the single propeller and ducted propeller is the passing frequency of the rotor, while the characteristic frequency of the exciting force on the pumpjet is the passing frequency of the stator. This paper has certain engineering guiding significance for the selection of propeller types and the study of hydrodynamic performance of underwater vehicles.
