Abstract

In order to reduce pressure fluctuation at harmonic frequency of a pump-jet propulsor (PJP) and diminish noise, effects of number of stator (Ns) and number of rotor (Nr) on the PJP's performance is studied by using RNG k-ε numerical model. Results indicate that there is a positive correlation of both thrust and torque present with Ns, but the efficiency is basically unchanged. Rotor thrust is disturbed by the stator, and thrust pulsation is mainly distributed at the blade frequency and its multiple frequency. The density corrected method (DCM) is carried out to simulate the cavitation. It is found that with the increase of the cavitation number σ, the rotor changes from full cavitation to local and tip cavitation, and then to only slight tip cavitation. When σ =3, the cavity area on the rotor surface may increase, but the cavitation volume will decrease.
