摘要

Rechargeable batteries are considered to be one of the most feasible solutions to the energy crisis and environmental pollution. As a bridge between the cathode and the anode of the battery, electrolytes play critical roles in improving the battery performance. Recently, high-entropy electrolytes (HEEs) with unique properties were proposed. Specifically, HEEs can accelerate ionic diffusion kinetics and promote the dissolution of salts as well as broaden the operating temperature of batteries. This Review provides a comprehensive summary of the application and working mechanisms of HEEs in rechargeable batteries. First, the motivation, history, and definitions of HEEs are introduced. Then, the roles of HEEs in enhancing electrochemical performance in liquid and solid-state batteries are presented, especially in improving ionic conductivity and achieving a wide temperature range. Finally, the current issues and possible future directions of the HEEs are proposed. This Review provides a new perspective on the design of high-performance electrolytes.
