Theory and equipment to determine the moments of inertia by an improved compound-pendulum method

摘要

A method to determine the moments of inertia based on the compound-pendulum theory was described. With this method, the determination of the center-of-gravity location and the length of pendulum previously can be bypassed. By measuring the swing cycles at different pendulum arm lengths, the moment of inertia can be determined, and simultaneously the location of center-of-gravity in the dimension perpendicular to the rotation axes can be determined. A proof-test prototype was also built and tested. Experimental data and analysis results show the availability of this method.
