N2 - Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) comprised of metal clusters bridged by organic ligands have aroused a great interest because they possess unique characteristics including porous crystalline structure and ultrahigh surface area. Also, MOFs can be converted into a wide range of derivatives (carbonaceous materials, metal oxides, metal compounds, etc.), which inherent the structural and compositional merits from parent MOFs. More remarkably, MOFs and MOF derivatives exhibit excellent tunability and good designability in terms of compositions and structures, so that they have broad applications especially in the field of energy conversion and storage such as electrocatalysis, solar water splitting, battery electrodes, supercapacitors, and separators. This book introduces the updated design and synthesis of MOFs and their derived materials, together with their applications in electrochemical energy conversion and storage, with “material-structure-properties” relationship being highlighted. In this chapter, we give a summary of the book's contents and discuss the remaining challenges and future prospects toward the practical applications of MOFs and MOF derivatives. We hope readers working in the related fields would be benefited from this book.
