N2 - BTA deep hole drilling adopts internal chip removal and self-directing machining principle. The teeth of BTA drills are arranged asymmetrically. The forces on the drills and guide pads and their distribution have an important effect on the stability and tool wear during drilling. This paper adopts the finite element simulation and experiment method to establish the cutting simulation model and experimental research platform and drilling force testing system of staggered BTA drills. Using LY12 aluminium alloy and 45 steel as workpiece materials, the simulation and experimental study of cutting different diameters ring workpiece with different teeth of BTA drills was carried out. The characteristics of chip formation and deformation during drilling were analyzed, and the distribution of three-dimensional of drilling force with the radius was studied. The results show that the simulation results are basically consistent with the experimental results, and the three-dimensional of drilling force of the staggered BTA drills show a non-uniform distribution law that increases with the increase of the radius. The cutting speed and feed have almost no influence on the drilling force distribution. The research results provide a certain reference for the design and optimization of BTA drills.
