Progress and prospect in development of superconducting materials

In recent years, worldwide research efforts have been made to develop high temperature superconductors (HTS) and their applications. This paper presents a brief overview of the research and development on HTS materials which including Bi-based wires (or tapes), YBCO coated conductor and bulks. The progress and prospect in HTS application are discussed. It is expected that the HTS materials will be comecialized in large scale with 10-20 years. In addition to HTS, the progress in conventional low temperature superconductors(LTS) such as NbTi and Nb ₃Sn is also briefly reviewed in this article.
