Parallel multi-beam adaptive beamformer for GPS receivers

摘要

A parallel multi-beam adaptive digital beamformer (ADBF) used in global positioning system (GPS) receivers is presented in this paper. This novel beamformer tightly integrates with the GPS receiver and the inertial measurement unit, where satellite position and the carrier attitude angles are utilized to steer the beams pointing to satellites. Parallel multi-beam technology is applied to enhance the performance in terms of array gain, interference suppression and satellite coverage. The analysis of output signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) for each satellite shows that this beamformer achieves global optimum. The implementation of this beamformer, with signal flow and multichannel digital output interface, is well investigated and presented. The proposed beamformer is compared with prior adaptive beamformers, and results show that the parallel multi-beam ADBF outperforms in output SINR, especially for low-elevation signal.
