N2 - Al modified silicide coatings have been prepared by Si-Al co-deposition pack cementation processes on an Nb silicide based alloy. The Si-Al co-deposition was conducted at 1000, 1050, 1100 and 1150°C for 8 hours respectively. The coatings had a multiple layer structure at all co-deposition temperatures, but different phase constituents formed in the outer layers of the coatings at different co-deposition temperatures. However, all the inner layers of the coatings were discontinuous and composed of (Nb,Ti)Al3 and (Cr,Al)2(Nb,Ti) phases. The coating prepared by Si-Al co-deposition at 1050°C were composed of an Nb3Si5Al2, (Nb,X)Si2 and (Nb5Ti)Al3 outer layer (where X represents Ti, Hf and Cr elements), a (Nb,X)5Si3 intermediate layer and the inner layer. The coating obtained by co-depositing Si and Al at 1000°C possessed an outer layer composed of (Nb,Ti)Al3 with small amount of (Nb,X)5Si3 and the inner layer. Both coatings prepared at 1100 and 1150°C possessed a (Nb,X)Si2 outer layer, a (Nb,X)5Si3 intermediate layer and the inner layer.
