N2 - A novel microstrip-fed broadband circular polarization (CP) antenna with unidirectional radiation is proposed in this paper. The designed antenna consists of a L-shaped radiation patch, which is embedded in the microstrip feed line, a square ground and a planar PEC reflector. The structure of the antenna is an inverted planar structure paralleling with the ground. By adjusting the size of the two strip branches of the L-shaped patch, a very good axial-ratio bandwidth (ARBW) is obtained. The simulated impedance bandwidth (IBW) and ARBW of the realized antenna with optimized parameters is from 1.69GHz to more than 2.51GHz (40%) for VSWR<2, and 1.82-2.58GHz (34%) for AR<3 dB. By adding a reflector at the bottom of the antenna, the peak gain of the antenna can reach to 8.16dBic, and the antenna radiation pattern performs well over the whole band.
