N2 - In this paper, a new approach of hybrid wavelet analysis is proposed, in which the advantages of complex Hermitian wavelet (CHW) and redundant second generation wavelet (RSGW) are synthesized. CHW transform is suitable for detecting signal singularities caused by mechanical fault. RSGW transform can yield enough information from signal decomposition that data number of approximation signal or detail signal at all levels remains the same as the original data number. These excellent performances can be integrated for mechanical condition monitoring and fault prognosis. A successful application for mechanical impact fault in large air compressor gearbox has been achieved.
