Effects of bridge stress on fatigue crack growth of fiber metal laminates

摘要

Fatigue properties of FMLs are very complicated. Fiber bridge stress can decrease the stress level on crack tip of fiber metal laminates, which helps to improve fatigue behavior of FMLs. Experimental testing was performed to measure crack growth rates of metal plates and FMLs. Fiber bridge stresses were calculated and studied its effects on growth rates. It is shown that FMLs has a constant crack growth rate. The numerical method based on the bridging stress theory was deduced and can be used to predict the fatigue life of FMLs. DIC method can be used to measure delamination growing.
