Application of diamagnetic levitation technology in biological sciences research

摘要

The diamagnetic levitation technique as a novel ground-based model for simulating a low-gravity environment has been widely applied into many research fields such as physics, chemistry, and material sciences. Nowadays, the rapid-developing tendency to investigate the biological effects of diamagnetic levitation has been highlighted, although these studies are still in the initial stage and not perfect yet. The diamagnetic levitation technique has been utilized in biological studies, which mainly deal with its effects on animals, plants, embryos, and cells. Recent advances regarding the application of the diamagnetic levitation technique in biological sciences research are comprehensively reviewed in this paper from molecules and cells to model plants and animals. The diamagnetic levitation technique offers a new ground-based low-gravity simulator and provides new opportunities for research in biological sciences.
