N2 - Aim. We believe what we propose is a new type. Sections 1 through 4 of the full paper explain our new HOSM controller with a differentiator. The core of section 3 consists of: (1) using the feedback linearization technique, we design a HOSM controller to solve the chattering problem which exists in a conventional sliding mode controller; (2) our HOSM controller uses a sliding mode differentiator to estimate the differential values of sliding mode variables. Section 4 identifies the parameters of the magnetic flux and resistance of PMSM through using respectively eqs. (19) and (20). Section 5 simulates our new HOSM controller; the simulation results, presented in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, and their analysis indicate preliminarily that the multi-input and multi-output nonlinear PMSM has good dynamic performance and that our new HOSM controller is effective for estimating the magnetic flux and resistance of the PMSM.
