A mobile-beacon-assisted localization algorithm for non-uniform deployed sensor network

A distributed mobile-assisted localization approach with a heuristic moving trajectory (CMM) is presented for nonuniform deployed wireless sensor networks. In this work, a connectivity and energy based clustering method is first designed to construct a relatively continuous overlapping areas for guiding the mobile beacon and facilitate the control in localization process. Then we exploit the movement strategy design for the mobile beacon by using a adaptive virtual force field theory which can fulfil the requirement of full coverage. During the location estimation, a feature based Nyström MDS scheme is designed to provide the coordinate for each cluster with the location information received from the mobile beacon and localized sensors. We evaluate the performance of algorithm with extension simulations under two irregular topologies. The results indicate that CMM is able to compute a more accurate position with lower computational complexity under large distance measurement and low network connectivity, and it can also efficiently shorten the movement length for the mobile beacon.
