N2 - The paper presents the philosophy to design the Inflatable Leading Edge (ILE) and models its motion in flow. The concept utilizes the unconventional characteristics of inflatable structures. It can be integrated with overall wing structures to provide laminar flow in cruise and incorporated into deicing systems. Moreover, it can reduce the noise from leading edge high-lift devices (slat, slot, etc.) during the approach and landing. The coupled Navier-Stokes equations and aeroelastic equations were solved to obtain the aerodynamic characteristics of NACA 63-212 airfoil installed ILE. Results validated that this ILE technique could significantly increase the stall angle of attack and lift coefficient, but its deformation maybe reduced this effect. The membrane structures near the suck peak would deform clearly if its stiffness was low. This deformation could induce the separation in advance.
