Abstract

Upsetting process is a type of hot forming process. There is increasing demand for real-time control of hot forming. We now present a new equipotential simulation model that is suitable for real-time control of upsetting process. The analogy between plastic deformation field and electrostatic field, the description of upsetting process, the electrostatic field analysis of upsetting process, and the equipotential field analysis of upsetting process are proposed. The division of mesh, the distribution rule of equipotential field, the description of the trajectory of flowing particle, and the description of the strain field of deformation process are discussed, respectively. The results indicate preliminarily that we obtain not only reasonable pre-forging billet shape but also the field variable distributions during the process. As compared with FEM, which is nonlinear and needs a great deal of iterations during calculation process, the new method is very fast.
