Abstract

The polyimide was implanted with 110 keV protons in four doses of 1 × 1014 ions/cm2, 5 × 1014 ions/cm2, 2.5 × 1015 ions/cm2 and 1.25 × 1016 ions/cm2. Friction and wear experiments showed the improvement of their wear-resistance after proton implantation. But under different loads, the variety of their friction and wear behavior with implantation doses showed some differences. There were obvious adhesiveness and scuffing in the wear scar of polyimide before implantation, whereas the wear scar became smoother after implantation, with the adhesiveness and scuffing abated.
