Abstract

The effects of Cu nano-particles additive (Nano-Cu) and tricresyl phosphate (T306) and their synergetic effects on the tribological performance of lube oil were investigated by using four-ball test machine. The interaction of the two additives was also studied through SEM and XPS analysis. The results showed that the two additives with a certain range of concentration could improve tribological properties of base oil. The synergetic effect of the extreme pressure and antiwear was found in the lube oil containing nano-Cu and T306. When the mass fractions of the two additives in lube oil were 0.5% respectively, the extreme pressure and antiwear properties of the complex system were best. The composite film made by the aggradation film of Cu and the tribochemical reaction film containing FeS, SO42- and PO43- was found on the rubbing surface, which was the reason of synergetic effect.
