Abstract
A new type of face-gear drive with intersected axes of rotation formed by an arcuate tooth trace face-gear and an arcuate tooth trace cylindrical pinion was proposed, which has better meshing performance than the helical and spur involute face-gear drives. An arcuate tooth trace spiral bevel face-gear drive used for transformation of rotation between intersected axes that was consisted of a spiral bevel face-gear and an arcuate tooth trace cylindrical pinion. By applying space engagement theory, the author developed the cutting principle, mathematical model of design and machining for arcuate tooth trace face-gear. The equations of tooth surface of arcuate tooth trace face-gear was deduced and a 3-D model of FEM(finite element method) was established for further analysis. Based on the analysis of the machining method, it is convenient to generating the tooth surface of arcuate tooth trace face-gear by using the common Gleason cutter head with the general multi-axle numerical control machine tool.
