Thermodynamic analysis for the reaction of liquid uranium and its alloys with coatings of graphite crucibles

Abstract

Thermodynamic calculation has been used to analyze the possibility of the reactions of some materials with liquid uranium and its alloys at high temperature. The interrelated graphs of Δ G° to temperature for those reactions have been obtained by thermodynamic calculation. The chemical stability to liquid uranium and its alloys for those materials has been analyzed and compared. It was found that yttria has a good stability to liquid uranium and its alloys at high temperature, and it is well suitable for coating of graphite crucible for melting uranium and its alloys.
