Abstract
In this paper, an organic compound containing S, N, B and O elements is synthesized with the reaction of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole and chloroethanol in aqueous solution firstly, then the product reacts with butanol and boric acid in toluene solution at reflex for 6 h. Its friction and wear properties as additives in liquid paraffin were evaluated using four-ball machine and antiwear mechanisms were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Results show that the B-containing derivative of 2-mercaptobenzothiazole is effective at reducing the wear in liquid paraffin, but increases the friction coefficient of liquid paraffin.
