Abstract

To study the dynamic mechanics performance of 30CrMnSiA high strength alloy steel, stress versus strain curves of 30CrMnSiA steel are experimentally obtained over the strain rate from 102 s-1 to 8 × 103 s-1 and temperatures at 25, 200 and 400°C by using the split Hopkinson pressure bar assembled with a temperature controller. It is found that the flow stress increase with increasing strain rate. So, at the strain rate higher than 7000s1, the flow stress of 30CrMnSiA steel increases sharply with increasing strain rates due to the stabilizing effects of the strain rates sensitivity. The flow strain versus stress curves at different temperatures under similar strain rates show that the flow stress decreases significantly with increasing temperature, so 30CrMnSiA steel show thermal softening characteristic. The parameters of Johnson-Cook plastic constitutive model are obtained through fitting experimental values. The corresponding numerical simulation of the dynamic behavior is conducted with the finite element software ABAQUS based on J-C model. Results indicate that the simulation provided by J-C model is found to be appropriate to describe the dynamic mechanics behavior under experimental conditions.
