Abstract
In order to study the temperature dependence of mechanical state for nitrocellulose (NC)/nitroglycerin (NG) blend, the effects of temperature on the macro and micro mechanical properties of NC/NG blend were investigated by means of dynamic mechanical analyzer and molecular dynamics simulation. It has been indicated that the mechanical states of NC/NG blend are correlated with the motion states of NC molecular chains at different temperature. The latter is basically determined by the free volume, the capacity of their thermal motion, as well as the interaction force with NG molecules. It has been found that there are two mechanical relaxation processes, which are caused by the discontinuous nature of free volume and a sudden increase of rotary motion inside NC molecules, respectively.
