Abstract

CdS/Ag hybrid particles embedded in phosphate glass were synthesized by an ion exchanged and subsequent UV irradiation. Absorption spectra and fluorescence spectra were used to study the samples under different technical conditions. The absorption spectra show that there was a strong absorption at 380-420 nm after ion exchange and it would become narrower after UV irradiation. When the samples were excited with the light of wavelength 325 nm, the luminescence at 420, 530 nm respectively with the different chemical states of silver. The diffusion and reduce process of silver in the glass were studied, the result indicate that the thickness of the exchange layer can be controlled by control the ion exchanged time, the total of the silver ion and its profile in the glass can be achieved by control salt batch concentration.
