Abstract

In order to improve the wide angle scanning performance of the phased array antennas, a wide beam microstrip antenna with metal ring patch as main radiator is proposed in this paper. The beam-width of the proposed antenna element is broadened by the loading parasitic periodic circular metal patches. The radiation pattern performance of the antenna element is improved. The operating band is from 29GHz to 31GHz. Furthermore, the wide beam antenna element is employed in a 8×8 array antenna, which is studied and presented. The main beams of the scanning array antenna can scan from -60° to +60° in the frequency band at 30GHz with a gain more than 18dB.
