Abstract

To study the characteristics of an actuator-based detonation tube in cold state, experimental investigations were carried out on an actuator. The actuator was of modular construction, thus many various configurations of the actuator, with different lengths, injection positions and directions, could be obtained. The results indicated that the amplitude of pressure oscillations varied with injection frequency and approached the maximum around the resonance frequency. Variations of the injection position or direction had little impact on the resonance frequency. However, the resonance frequency varied with the length of the actuator linearly. The present work laid a solid foundation for estimating resonance frequency in hot experiments and provided references for realizing thermoacoustic coupling.
