Abstract

Thruster is one of the core components of deep-sea exploration equipment. However, most of the deep-sea thrusters are complex in structure or low in reliability. A new type of deep-sea motor thruster with isolation hood is designed in this research, which does not require dynamic sealing structure or magnetic coupling on the output shaft. Based on finite element method (FEM), the static characteristics of the concentrated winding Halbach array permanent magnet (CWHA-PM) machine for the new type motor thruster are investigated in detail, including the magnetic field distribution, air gap flux density, back-EMF, cogging torque, armature winding inductance and electromagnetic torque. 48 transient 2D numerical simulations are performed to investigate the impact of slot opening width and main magnetic pole ratio on electromagnetic torque, which provided a basis for the optimization of the overall performance of this new thruster.
