Study on planar wide-scan phased array

Abstract

A planar wide-scan phased array is studied. U-shaped slot wide beamwidth microstrip antenna is used as the elements of the array. The U-slot patch antenna, with a square ring strip which pins to the ground, is used to realize the wide beamwidth radiation. The design is validated with S-band planar 9X9 array. The gain of the array is reduced only 3dB when the beam scan to 60°.
