Abstract

Five kinds of bars derived from a new high strength & toughness titanium alloy named TC21, invented in NIN, and patented in China, as candidate for aeronautical and astronautical industry, was used as test materials in this paper. Non-destructive test (NDT) was adopted to ensure the bulk quality of semi-products or finished-products of titanium alloys. Study on NDT of TC21 alloy bars was carried out and publicized for the first time. Results of touched method and water-soaked method show that surface roughness, microstructure, specifications, and type of device detector will affect the measurement accuracy obviously. Fine-machined bar surface, water-soaked method and USA produced facilities are recommended.
