Abstract

Cyanate resin (CE) modified by prepolymer of bismaleimide (BMI) with different contents were prepared. The reaction between CE and BMI were studied with FT-IR. The reactive mechanism of CE/BMI was discussed and the reactive equations were given. Meanwhile, the mechanical properties and thermal properties of the CE/BMI system with the different content of BMI were investigated. The result shows that the CE/BMI systems have good impact strength and flexural strength due to co-reaction between CE and BMI, self-polymerization of cyanate resin, self-polymerization of bismaleimide occured. When the content of BMI is 33.3%, the impact strength and flexural strength of the CE/BMI system is 153.7 MPa and 18.6 kJ/m2, respectively. Also the CE/BMI systems have good thermal property and the temperature of thermal decomposition is above 410°C.
