Abstract
The method to suppress the vibration of a rotating flexible beam with a spring-mass system attached to is proposed and the dynamic model of an Euler-Bernoulli beam with moving mass system is established. The non-dimensional equations are simplified and the mechanism of the vibration suppression by spring-mass is investigated under the condition that the motion of the mass is slow, and the angular velocity and the angular acceleration are as small as the beam deflection. An approximate solution is obtained by the method of multiple scales. For main resonance and the 1:2 internal resonance cases numerical results of the responses of beam and moving mass are obtained, showing some trend of the responses versus the mass position and the detuning parameter.
