Abstract

Based on a study of Boeing and Airbus Corporations' plans for a new generation large-scale passenger aircraft and some very important technology development research projects for large-scale passenger aircraft in America and Europe, this paper proposes a view of China's large-scale passenger aircraft development in the context of global commercial competition in terms of research, safety, benefit-cost characteristics, cabin comfort, and environment friendliness. Furthermore, it presents the basic concept design criteria for China's large-scale passenger aircraft, involving safety design, benefit-cost design, cabin comfort design, and environmental protection design. Seven examples are given to illustrate the contribution of new technologies to large-scale passenger aircraft, including BWB-C passenger aircraft, aircraft-airship for large or heavy cargo, and 5 fine designs of aerodynamics, structure, auxiliary power unit, hydraulic system, and multidisciplinary design analysis and optimization.
