Abstract

The carbonation process of overbased calcium alkyl salicylate was investigated by using FE-EM and FT-IR methods. Results showed that the size of colloidal particles increased along with the increase of product TEN during the carbonation process, while the size of colloidal particles decreased when TEN began dropping. The product TEN showed its maximum at 74 min reaction time. It was also observed that calcium carbonate contents in the product showed the same tendecy of changes as the product TEN did, the calcite appeared at certain reaction extent. A deep realization on the carbonation is presented based on the above researches.
