Abstract

A ten-freedom-degrees dynamic model of spiral bevel gear lapping system was established with the consideration of tooth backlash, transmission error and time-varying meshing stiffness. For the disadvantages of conventional gear lapping method, the excited gear lapping method was introduced in this paper. The dynamic lapping force and normal vibration displacement at meshing point between conventional gear lapping and excited gear lapping were analyzed. The results show that both the drive side and non-drive side of the tooth can be lapped at the same time by applying excited gear lapping method. The results of ultrasonic gear lapping experiment show that the quality of gear face is improved and the gear lapping efficiency is increased.
