Abstract

Sound field reproduction aims to create or reproduce a certain sound environment where not only the audio content, but also the spatial property of the sound field has to be preserved. For a real system which is usually placed in a “listening room”, the reproduction performance is affected or even destroyed by superimposing of reflections from walls. As a result, it is important to control the sound energy which radiates to the space outside the loudspeaker array. Compared with omnidirectional loudspeakers, the use of variable-directivity loudspeakers can eliminate the exterior field according to the Kirchhoff-Helmholtz integral equation. This paper investigates the performance of variable-directivity arrays using pressure matching-acoustic contrast control(PM-ACC) and compares its performance with that of omnidirectional one.
