Abstract

In Wavelength-Division-Multiplexing (WDM) optical networks, the survivable design is a key issue. In this paper, we propose a novel Segment Shared Protection Algorithm (SSPA) based on the reliability of the networks and the different levels of the fault tolerance requested by the users. Under the guarantee of the blocking probability and the reliability of the connection, SSPA can further improve the resource utilization ratio compared with the previous algorithms. We evaluate the effectiveness of SSPA and the results are found to be promising.
