Abstract

Due to the special structure of the BSSG, the rotating rectifier causes current distortion on the rotor side of the ME, which also affects the stator current of the ME. In this paper, a real-time rotor position estimation method based on the sum of squares of ME stator currents is proposed. In this method, the extreme values of the sum of squares of the ME stator current and its corresponding torque are extracted and used to calculate the speed frequency of the BSSG. Combined with an existing initial rotor position estimation method, the real-time rotation angle of the MM can be fetched continuously. This method requires no high-frequency signal injection, avoids dependence on MM salient poles, and can accurately estimate the rotor position whatever the system is in the process of starting or generating.
