Abstract

Researches on rocket-based combined-cycle (RBCC) inlets over the past years in Northwestern Polytechnical University were reviewed, and several relevant designs and achievements were summarized. Some key scientific and technical issues associated with RBCC inlets were numerically and experimentally studied, such as operation characteristics in ejector mode, starting characteristics, and matching characteristics with other components in different modes, et al. Several variable geometry RBCC inlets for wide flight regime were designed and investigated. Through researches over a decade, comprehensive and systemic understandings for wide applicable RBCC inlets have been obtained by adopting advanced design methods and research techniques.
