Abstract

Towing ship noise is a kind of wideband interference with strong multi-path and angle dispersion for a towed line array sonar system. Based on the novel concept of matched field noise suppression (MFNS) proposed by the authors, two robust MFNS methods were presented to cancel the towing ship noise. Of them one is multiple constraints MFNS and the other is matched field postbeamformer interference canceller (MF-PIC). The prominent advantage of the methods is that it can suppress the towing ship's noise for all arrival directions and keep signal power with robustness. The efficacy of the methods was verified by simulation.
