Abstract

The present situation and progress of investigation on rocket based combined cycle (RBCC) propulsion system is reviewed. Research project and production during different periods were described. And some problems and critical technology which needs to be considered and settled during the RBCC development is pointed out. RBCC applications to reusable TSTO space transportation, near space or space plane, and SSTO vehicle are discussed. Finally, the suggestion about RBCC development in China is put forward.
