Abstract

The solid-liquid interface stability criterion of multicomponent alloys was developed by using the CALPHAD method with consideration of the solute interactions. By applying the model for the Al-0.34 % Si-0.14 % Mg alloy, it was found that the predicted unstable region with CALPHAD method was larger than that based on the binary data. The good agreement between the calculation results and the experimental data shows that the present stability criterion based on the CALPHAD method is satisfactory for the prediction of the solid-liquid interface stability.
