Abstract

Effects of nano diamond particles on contact fatigue life of steel ball were evaluated on a self-made ball-rod contact fatigue tester. The anti-fatigue mechanisms of diamond additive were analyzed by means of SEM and DEA. It was shown that, when the biphase liquid lubrication contained diamond, contact fatigue life was improved as compared with that of base grease. Nanoparticle adsorption action, nanoparticle infiltration action and extreme pressure for anti-friction performance, explained well why diamond increased the contact fatigue life of steel ball.
