Abstract
Introducing sequential optimization and reliability assessment (SORA) method to multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO), a framework is presented for formulating and solving reliability-based multidisciplinary design optimization (RBMDO) problems. In order to reduce the number of reliability analysis, this method uses sequential cycles of optimization and reliability assessment in the design to decouple the optimization from reliability assessment. And system analysis is adopted to complete the progress of probabilistic analysis in multidisciplinary environment. The proposed framework allows designers and analysts to solve RBMDO problems in much the same way that modern MDO problems are posed. Two examples are given to illustrate the feasibility and advantage of performing RBMDO problems with this method.
