Abstract

This review aims to summarize recent advances in 3D printing technologies for polymer-based bone scaffolds, focusing on material applications and clinical implications. The 3D printing technologies applicable to different polymer-based materials are discussed with their characteristics and application advantages, specifically the common 3D printing techniques and the polymer materials used. Recent advances in the application of 3D-printed polymer-based bone scaffolds with multifunctionality (i.e., drug delivery, bone regeneration and minimally invasive implantation) are then presented to provide guidance for potential clinical applications.
