Abstract

Recent advances on research and development in NbTi, NbTiTa, Nb3Sn, and other practical superconductors are reviewed. The effects of heat treatments and other process parameters and the metallurgical effects of alloying elements on the critical current and other superconducting properties of the conductors are assessed. NbTi and NbTiTa alloys with high homogeneity and critical current densities, fabricated by multiple cold working and thermal cycling, are described, along with bronze-route fabricated Nb3Sn.
