Abstract

The effects of multiple cold working and aging heat treatment cycling on the critical current densities of NbTi-25Ta/Cu multifilamentary superconductors at 11 to 13 T near 2 K are described. High critical current densities were obtained through four cycles of cold work and heat treatment. At 1.87 K and 12 and 13 T the critical current density values were 7.23 to 8.05 x 104 A/cm2 and 3.29 to 3.86 x 104 A/cm2 respectively. The critical current density of NbTi-25Ta at 12 T and about 2 K was higher than that of Nb3Sn at 12 T and 4.2 K.
